It just so happens there is a new challenge on the block. The theme happens to be feathers. I happen to have a feather stamp and it happens to have Never Been Used. This is perfect as the challenge is organised by Darnell.
The challenge is to make two cards using the same stamp but the cards must be for different occasions. Thus stretching our ingenuity and our stash.
Here are my two cards using a feather stamp and sentiments from Ultimate Crafts.
I embossed the feathers in clear powder.
I had an image in my head of rich colours blended so I inked over with a mix of ink pads (Danube, Teal Zeal, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves) and a blending tool. Then I spritzed with water hoping for fine droplets. I never learn. I got great drips but it was done so I went with it. More inking followed.
Then I removed some of the ink on the feathers with water. It didn't take of much so I tried a drop of bleach in the water. You only need a tiny drop and then you'll find yourself adding colour back in again.
I finished it with some flattened raffia ribbon.
The sentiment was embossed in clear then I coloured the white card with a Pro-marker. Pro-markers colour clear embossing. Who knew? I thought it looked OK so I kept it instead of starting again and having a white sentiment. It isn't really blurred as it looks here.
I was less pleased with this in general but now I quite like it.
The feathers are embossed in silver and then painted in with Danube Blue, very dilute, and a touch of Perfect Pearls. I over-stamped more feathers in Cloudy Blue.
I added a strip of paper for definition and a few gems.
I'm also linking this one to the Stamping Sensations challenge Cold and Frosty Colours
Twofer is a great idea and is fun to try out a different idea with a stamp instead of immediately putting it away. (I'm sure you don't leave yours out to gather dust and fluff).
Thanks for visiting. Enjoy your day. x
I think your first card is quite lovely. It's so rich and full of color and the embossed feathers turned out perfectly! Your thinking of you card is wonderful, as well. I really do like that light blue and the silver embossing. Two great feathery cards! Thank you for joining us at the Twofer Challenge. Bev
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous feather stamp and two great cards as a result. I like the strong colours on the first one but equally like the soft pretty blue on the second.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of your feather stamp. I love the vibrancy of the first card. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteOh lovely cards Alison, I like the effects on the first one including your spritzing of water, it adds a really interesting background for the feathers and makes them really stand out. The second is my favourite, I like the delicate nature that the light stamping and the blue tones give, very nice x
ReplyDeleteYour feathery cards are wonderful! The rich tones of the first combined with the raffia looks stunning! The second one is very soft looking with the pastel color scheme. Love the light blue feathers in the background!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for playing in the very first Twofer Card Challenge and for your kind words on my blog!
These are both gorgeous, Alison! The contrast of the fabulous bold blending with the delicate embossed feathers is just lovely on your first card ... and the shimmery light blue with the soft overstamped images is delightfully dreamy on the second! Thanks so much for your visit and kind words ... and for playing along with us at Twofer! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteStunning card designs. I love the bright bold colors of the birthday one and the other in the silver and blue is awesome too.
ReplyDeleteBoth colourways looks beautiful and I particularly like the lovely inky background in the Cold and Frosty colours' of our theme this month, many thanks for joining us at Stamping Sensations challenge.

Stunning cards, Alison! Thanks for joining in at stamping sensations. The glass lampshade on the bird feeder makes it just too far for our rather chubby squirrel to reach when dangling by the back legs down the bird feeder. If he loses a bit of weight he may be able to reach though! It is certainly working at the moment
ReplyDeleteTwo stunning cards, I absolutely love the techniques you used here! This stamp was perfect for both of the occasions you chose.
ReplyDeleteTwo gorgeous card, Alison. I especially love the inky background on the first one, just beautiful. xx
ReplyDeleteEverything you went through was so worth it, Alison! These designs are both gorgeous! I love the bright and inky birthday card! I can't remember the last time I saw raffia and a button and I love it! And your floating blue and silver design is excellent for a TOY card! Love the faint background, too! Good job embracing the concept of my new Twofer Challenge AND using NBUS!! Thank you so much!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteTwo lovely cards Alison, like them both but the inky one is my favourite
