Embossed Poinsettia

We've been roasting here in the UK this week and the last thing on our minds is Christmas. However 52CCT does not stand still, even for a heat wave, so we have a new challenge for you:

I almost took a picture of my ribbon box but really I'm too embarrassed to show it. It's a jumble of knotted up ribbons, threads and all sorts and the lid hardly goes on, it has to be forced and sat on. Most of them are saved from clothes, wrapping and packaging. I'm sure your ribbon stash is much better organised and looked after so have a look and see what you can come up with for this challenge. 

This card is made with gold embossing and then coloured with Brushos. There is a little frill of die cut vellum, a strip of papery gold ribbon and then organza ribbon over the top. 

I stamped a sentiment meaning to cut it out and add it but when I came back to look at the card, I couldn't bear to cover any of the base. I should plan ahead more.

Cake is always good!

This week at 52CCT we are challenging you to use an non- traditional image on your Christmas card. That leaves the field wide open for being inventive. 

Here is what I did. This is the card that got less and less. 
I started with a tea cup and then was going to have 3 cakes. Then I started taking things away and even took the sentiment (Inky Doodles) away at one point. 

The final result. I chose this cup cake stamp (unknown) which had a heart decoration on top. I cut that off and replaced it with a sprig of holly. I used the same paper for the case and through the rest of the card to tie it all together. Then some all important glitter on the cake.  
I like the result and I hope you do.

Christmas Tree

Bang in the middle of summer we are still making Christmas cards. Sometimes it's hard but it pays off in December when there is so much else to do and a little pile of cards is all ready to send. 

This week at 52CCT it's a colour challenge:

I used Festive Berries and Pine Needles Distress oxide inks - very appropriate. I inked and spritzed some watercolour paper and used that to cut the tree. 

I used a card base which I had already cut for another project and then discarded. Part of the front was cut away so embossed part of the green paper for that area. As I often do, I put the paper in the folder the wrong way so it's de-bossed! Hey ho. If I hadn't told you, you'd think it was intended...

Winter trees

We bring you our first July challenge at 52CCT and it's a sketch.

I think there are lots of things you could do with this one. 
It seems strange to be making Christmas cards in one of the hottest weeks of the year but maybe thinking of snow will cool us down. 

I stamped my sentiment first and then using a mask, sponged the sky on the two circles. I didn't have a tiny tree stamp so I used the top of a large tree and, as I was using a mask, only the top was stamped. 
I used a small snowflake stamp to add little interest on the blue background and some of the white.

Pop-up

We have a fun challenge for you this week at 52CCT

The team have made some fabulous inventive cards so do go over and have a look here. 

My card is a more simple version. 

I cut and embossed 5 baubles and then cut them out. Each one is folded in half and then glued to the next one. 
It reminds me of the fold out decorations we used to hang up when I was a child. Bells and baubles made of tissue and card which, though very fragile, used to come out every year. 

I hope you find time to play along with our challenge. You have two weeks this time as it's a 5 Saturday month

Vintage or Shabby Christmas

Our topic this week at 52CCT is:

I had an idea and this is nothing like the plan. It's not even the same colours. I like the finished card and that's what matters. I'm not sure if my card is Shabby or Vintage. Perhaps both. 
I stamped the border using Card-io Majestix stamps on cream card using Latte ink. The sentiment is embossed in clear as it didn't ink terribly well so a little embossing powder helped it stand out a bit more. It looks shabby though! I do love the fancy font.
I added the ribbon and a few die cuts sewed on with a button and raffia. Very simple but isn't that often the best way?

Do have a go at our challenge this week. We are only half way through the year so plenty of time to get started on those Christmas cards if you haven't already. It sounds mad but it works.

Grey and pink Christmas

Another week, another challenge at 52CCT.

I'm not sure how we came to be in June but here we are into the second week which means a colour challenge. Fabiola has chosen these soft colours for us:

My card came together very quickly once I'd had the idea, which was just as well as I was running out of time!

I used this Christmas tree die which I ordered from a cheap and cheerful website. I'm not sure of the sense in this as they are probably knock-offs and are flown round the world. Every so often I am taken in by the prices and choices. This set has many dies and you can mix an match them. Expect to see it again soon. 

The background is Spun Sugar Distress Oxide ink. The tree is kraft and the border is grey. The star is also grey but I added glossy accents and glitter so it looks less grey now and more silver. The tassel is also pink.
