The truth about snippets and why there is no hope.

I've recently had a sort out of the stash under my bed. I don't mean clear out, I threw a small amount away, but I sorted things so I can at least find what I'm looking for. 
I wondered why I still seem to have so much even though I always start with scraps and snippets when making a card. 
This is what happens:
If I start with one piece of card and cut it then I have two pieces. If I use one, I still have one - the same as I started with. 
If I start with one piece of card and cut it, then I have two. If I cut it again, then I have three. If I use one I still have two which is twice as much as I started with. 
Should I go on? The truth is that they do actually multiply as we suspected!
The pieces get smaller but actually probably take up more space as they are not neat and tidy like a pack of new card or paper. That doesn't last, does it?

Here is a card I made using a piece I found when sorting. It's the iron off embossing technique I've used often described here. I know I've described it better somewhere, I'll keep looking. If only I remembered to add labels. 
I used a snippet of purple and die cut Thanks 3 times to layer. I've also used a scrap of ribbon. 
I'm hopping over to Pixie's Snippet's Playground for the first time in ages. Di, I hope you are on the mend and will soon be running round after all the playmates, not to mention Dudley and Parsnip. x

Stash challenge - recycling

Good morning. 

Our stash challenge this week at 52CCT is recycling. You can use anything which has previously been used elsewhere. I know we are all hoarding lots of things which might come in useful one day!

I started with an inked and embossed panel which had been rejected from a previous project. 

I then cut out snowflakes using different packaging I'd saved. 

I think there is a gold chocolate wrapper (obviously someone else must have eaten the chocolate), pearlised card from a oil diffuser box and a silver envelope. It's all mounted on a base card I found in my stash. I'd embossed the frame and then not used it. The gems are the only new thing used.

Winter trees

Hello lovely crafters, 
I hope you've all had a good week and had some time to do what you love. 
We have a new challenge for you at 52CCT:

You should find lots of inspiration around you, unless you live in a warm place. Here the trees are all bare and showing their wonderful shapes. 

I used an inky piece of paper and added more Distress Oxide ink and Perfect Pearls until I was happy with the depth of colour. Then I stamped round the edge, using the same colour ink, with an icicle stamp but it also looks rather like branches. 

I tried adding glitter to the wet ink and a little of it clung, giving a frosty look. 

Most of the glitter is now attached to everything else in my room. Love glitter, I'm sorry it's bad for the planet. This is edible glitter so I hope it biodegrades. If not - eugh!

Christmas foliage

We have a colour challenge for you at 52CCT this week.

I chose to use Christmas foliage but it didn't go as I'd anticipated so I just kept adding bits and bobs until I was (fairly) happy with the finished card. 

There is some stamping, embossing in silver and then some die cuts. The centre circle is raised up slightly on two more circles so the die cut leaves could be tucked underneath. I finished of with a few gems and a bow. 
It's still fairly flat!

Bright lights

As usual the month has rushed past and we find that it is February. We start another round of challenges at 52CCT and as usual we start with a sketch. 

I used some individual fairy light stamps. Stamped them first and then added a pencil line to join them before inking. I've been caught out before going straight to ink!
I coloured them with pencils and a gold gel pen and added a wink of Stella over the top.
Quick an easy for when you are running out of time!

This week the lovely Darnell is organising a Thank you Blog Hop for the lovely Di
Di tirelessly organises and runs Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge. The idea is to help us use up all those scraps of paper and card, ribbon and wool that we all hoard. You can enter using just one snippet and there are many, many great ideas for using up all those bits and pieces. 
Di has just celebrated 7 years running the playground and we want to thank her.

A few weeks ago I showed a card I'd made using die cut white flowers. I cut out 9 then realised when I looked at them properly that they were not all the same shade of white. As Di said, who knew there were so many shades of white before they started card making? 
So I cut some more for that card and then had some left over.  

Here is the card made using the leftover flowers. 

I painted a little Perfect Pearls powder on to the flowers so they have a little shimmer. I love the look of the coloured centres though they do remind me of yummy chocolate sweets and I don't really need to be reminded how good they are. 


I was still left with one flower so I used a scrap of inked paper and the window die which, very appropriately, I won in the playground, to make this card.

I had to use up another snipped to cut out the leaves so I still have enough to make 2698 cards before I run out of snippets.

Painted Holly

Good morning and welcome to the final week of January. 

As usual we have a technique challenge for you at 52CCT. This time it's everyone's favourite:

I embossed these holly leaves in Bronze and then filled in with Brusho inks. I like painting inside embossed shapes as it makes it easier to keep the paint inside the outline! I'd love to be a skilled artist but I don't spend the time practising so this is good enough for me. 

This panel was mounted in several ways and even went into the bin before I settled on this layout. One of my favourite and most used. 
I couldn't decide on where to add a sentiment so there isn't one.
